Seasonal influenza usually occurs toward the end of winter/beginning of spring when immune systems are at their weakest. This is due to a vitamin D deficiency. Nearly all people living in the temperate regions have some level of deficiency which correlates to a number of other illnesses such as MS.
Most people need 5,000 units of vitamin D per day, but often receive 1/10th of that. http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/health/deficiency/am-i-vitamin-d-deficient.shtml
We tend to rely on cures rather than prevention. Unfortunately, the cure for swine flu is suffering it out.
